Historic StirlingAs Scotland's ancient Capital, Stirling has always played a key role in the country's history. Dominated by the Castle sitting majestically on a volcanic outcrop, the City of Stirling has been at the very heart of Scotland's past for centuries. As well as the historic Castle with its great views, visitors can enjoy the National Wallace Monument (pictured above) dedicated to William Wallace of Braveheart fame. At nearby Stirling Bridge in 1297 Wallace led the Scots to victory. At Bannockburn Robert the Bruce defeated the English in 1314, and in 1326 Scotland's first parliament met at Cambuskenneth Abbey.Today Stirling offers a warm welcome to visitors from around the world. As one of Scotland's most modern Cities it combines history and heritage with great shopping, nightlife and is a popular stopover on the way to the Highlands.
